Merlin
A coach for bird watchers of every level, Merlin is an app that allows you to identify birds from recording their singing or searching by the bird’s primary colors, size, and your specific location.
All About Birds
Another Cornell creation, All About Birds allows you to search any bird in North America. Look at photos, learn about its habits, or hear their songs.
Audubon Bird Guide
Developed by the National Audubon Society, Audubon Bird Guide is similar to the Merlin app, providing comprehensive details of more than 800 species of North American birds.
Pl@ntNet
According to the developers of Pl@ntNet it’s a “citizen science project available as an app that helps you identify plants thanks to your pictures,” by comparing your images to thousands of others that have uploaded them to their database. The app then suggests various species that may be a correct match.

Make Your Yard More Sustainable
Think about what you can do in your own yard. Here are five ways to make your garden more eco-friendly:
- Make your garden a habitat.
- Add a Rain Garden where suitable.
- Reduce your lawn, especially in less usable areas (those with high slopes, marshy ground, areas adjacent to woods or meadows.
- Create a compost pile on your property. Several websites show the way.
- Go electric.
- Collect your water in rain barrels to water gardens, pots, etc.
Greener Earth Organic can help make your yard and garden more sustainable. We’re “Building a healthier planet one yard at a time.”
